Announces the release of “G.I. JESÚS” on DVD

“G.I. JESÚS,” has been compared to a modern version of “Flags of our Fathers” set in Iraq.

CHATSWORTH, February 6, 2008--Westlake Entertainment, Inc. announces today the release of G.I. JESÚS, a powerful drama with actual Iraq battle footage. G.I. JESÚS targets the exploitation of immigrant soldiers and the psychological costs of the Iraq war, among other social issues and it has been compared to “Letters from Iwo Jima” and “Flags of our Fathers.”  The winner of the CineVegas Grand Jury Prize, GI JESÚS, will be available nationwide on March 18, 2008 for a suggested retail price of $19.98.

Jesus Feliciano (Joe Arquette) is a Mexican immigrant who joins the U.S. military to become a legal citizen of the United States (an actual Bush administration recruitment policy). After returning from a tour of combat in Iraq, JESÚS is shocked to find how much his Mexican wife (Patricia Mota) and daughter has changed in his absence. He watches his American dream turn into a nightmare as he struggles to hold his family together in a country obsessed with materialism and conspicuous consumption.  As his troubled marriage dissolves before our eyes, it is sad to see how much soldiers and soldiers' families are forced to sacrifice.

Racked by flashbacks and visions, JESÚS is haunted by an Iraqi soldier named Mohammed that only he can see. JESÚS laments over the many people he killed just to be legal, as he learns that the true cost of the war is to his own psyche. “G.I. JESÚS is a brilliant collaboration of actual combat footage from Iraq and the sacrifices made by the soldiers and their families at home,” said Larry Cohen, Principal of Westlake Entertainment. “It is a powerful portrayal of the profound effects of war on our nation and the world.”

G.I. JESÚS’ Filmmaker Carl Colpaert chronicles an emotional journey of one man’s struggle to let go of the pain and agony suffered during war in order to return to his promised life, while examining broader political issues of wartime propaganda and immigration.  The exploitation of immigrant soldiers in the U.S. military and the personal and psychological costs of the Iraq war are only a few of the targets under attack in G.I. JESÚS,” said Justin Chang, Variety.  “It is an ambitious, topical satire that takes a harrowing and humorous look at a Mexican national's brief furlough from the frontlines...a bold...always intriguing piece of work...”
