Red Envelope Entertainment Acquires Schwarzenegger Documentary
Oct 31, 2007 at 09:56 am
Los Angeles, October 31 -- Red Envelope Entertainment announced today that it has acquired domestic distribution rights to Running With Arnold, the notorious unauthorized documentary chronicling Arnold Schwarzenegger’s rise to celebrity and political power narrated by Alec Baldwin. The film became mired in much controversy this past year when Baldwin unsuccessfully attempted to have his narration removed citing the film’s controversial subject matter.
“Red Envelope Entertainment is about enlightening, entertaining and engaging audiences nationwide,” said Liesl Copland, head of Red Envelope Entertainment. “Marrying politics and entertainment to achieve that goal with a documentary about the governor of California is a winning proposition.”
The film, directed by trade journal veteran Dan Cox, will have a multi-city theatrical release handled by Lantern Lane Entertainment early next year followed by its release on Netflix, and to the retail home entertainment market by Westlake Entertainment. The deal was negotiated by David Ripert and Bob Aaronson on behalf of Red Envelope Entertainment and David Garber of Lantern Lane, attorney Greg Bernstein and producer Mike Gabrawy (Resident Evil, Stealing Time) on behalf of the filmmakers. The film premiered on opening night at SXSW and most recently won best documentary at the Zurich Film Festival. Al Ruddy, chairman of the Zurich Film Festival jury and producer of the The Godfather, is ironically also Arnold’s good friend and godfather to his children.
Arnold was produced by Gabrawy and entertainment attorney Jennifer Hughes and executive produced by entertainment attorney Gregg Michael Abrams of Endless World Entertainment and Jeffrey Orenstein of Purple Princess Productions.
