Can Tom Russo “Do?” Or Does Tom Just Criticize? Post Your Opinion… by Greta Van Susteren
Don’t you love these guys? The ones who can’t make movies …so sit around and criticize those who DO? Take Tom Russo of the Boston Globe below….he criticizes the movie “Girl 27″ new to DVD which puts the spotlight on a very serious matter - a woman who was raped in Hollywood and then banned because she dared to complain! He says the filmmaker David Stenn is too eager to inject himself into the narrative…oh how poor Tom missed the point! David’s role in the movie HIGHLIGHTED the problem..the shame etc. that rape causes. David’s role was instrumental in getting the point of the movie across!!! Did Tom not see the same movie I did?
I don’t care that Tom “I Have Never Made a Movie Myself” Russo takes a slight slap at me ….let’s see…I should care when I love my job, we have been number 1 in our time slot since the show launched 5 1/2 years ago…and, if poor Tom “I Have Never Made a Movie” Russo does not think I am an “expert,” perhaps he wants to contact Georgetown Law School who awarded me two, not one, law degrees and tell them to take them back now! Maybe Tom will post on this blog the great wealth of legal experience he has…don’t hold you breath..
…all joking aside about what Tom has to say about me, I must admit I do care about one thing - that he takes a slap at David Stenn. He is wrong about David and David’s movie. I met David. David is an amazing guy. David poured his heart and soul into this movie…he did it all himself…including raising the $ for it…and what about Tom? what has he done? I don’t know…maybe he will post a comment and tell us….as for me, I encourage people like David to keep putting the spotlight on important issues (and call me crazy, but I think rape - and others’ efforts to hide it - a serious matter…I will do what I can to help and taking slaps at those who are helping is not my idea of what helps.)
As an aside, yes, I did answer one or two question in this documentary about the crime of rape (my role was so minor..if you blink, you would not see me…) Why did I do it? because, after speaking to David, and finding out that he is a serious filmmaker..and that the story was one everyone wanted to hide, I wanted to do what I could to help him. I did not get paid a dime and did not want a dime. I wanted this important story out…..
Yes, Tom does make some nice comments about the movie…but maybe he just wanted to cover all his bases…he feared some of you might watch it ….
As for you? get the DVD, watch it…and let me know what you think…. click here to order:

“GIRL 27″ (2007)
Hollywood biographer David Stenn tells the story of Patricia Douglas, a dancer raped during a rowdy MGM sales convention back in 1937, and whose story was effectively buried after she dared to go to court. Interviewed shortly before her death in 2003, Douglas is achingly portrayed as an irreparably damaged woman living a hermit-like existence in her Las Vegas apartment. Irksomely, Stenn is far too eager to inject himself into the narrative, and he hardly expands on his earlier Vanity Fair expose of the case when he solicits “expert” opinions from the likes of Greta Van Susteren. But he also makes points that are quite cogent, as when he contrasts Douglas’s treatment with the protection afforded Loretta Young, who played by studio rules in keeping quiet about having an illegitimate child with Clark Gable.
Extras: Commentary by Stenn; theme-fitting 1935 short “Hollywood Extra Girl.” (Westlake Entertainment, $19.98)
….
I guess the big question is for Tom (and maybe even the Boston Globe), and that is why the Boston Globe “solicits ‘expert’ opinions [on movies] from the likes of Tom Russo” — does he have any experience making movies? or just criticizing people like David Stenn who is an extremely talented, hard working and creative filmmaker… hhm…
